Once Capella was safely in Shed four I got out the long list if jobs to be done and put them into some sense of priority.
Some things could be done in the workshop at home and others in the shed which though provided with electricity and good lighting
is a dank and dreary place to work.
There is always the temptation to slip away sailing on Akraka or Rexanna on a nice day so I tried very hard to restrict that pleasure to one day a week.
On with the work!!

This time last year I was frantically trying to finish off a large traditional rocking horse for a client having been held up by an unexpected visit to the Royal Infirmary. I had banged my knee while sailing on Akraka and the whole lower leg became infected. I eventually atteneded my GP who, as usual, looked at me as if I was nuts for hoping 'it would just go away' and promptly sent me to A and E with a letter to an orthepeadic consultant. I was then pumped full of antibiotics and had my knee operated on to sort out the damage. I thought a couple of pills would have done the job but there you are.
Harry the horse was delivered on time to two grateful little girls and my boat 'coffers' were topped up ready for a big refit in the new year.
After three years building Capella I was anxious to get her into the water and of course money was disappearing like snow off a dyke so some of the external lockers etc. were made in Douglas fir. I decided to remake them all in teak and this was a major winter job.
The bottom was becoming very lumpy with the seven seasons of antifouling so in one of my 'manic' periods I decided to strip everything off back to the epoxy coating. Actually this proved easier than expectd though very wet and messy. I used Blackfriars paint remover followed by a hot sugar soap scrub to finish and neutralise the surface, two coats of underwater primer and two of anti fouling completed the job. I'll swear shes a knot faster this year!
I also laid a new cabin sole in oak before a general hull repaint and woodstain job completed a busy winter fit out.
The external wood stain is a bit thick so I'll re think that.
After all that I was delighted to get back into the water in late April 2008.
